Thank you for downloading the Birmingham Cross-City South v1.31 route for openBVE v1.0, BVE v4.2 and v2.6.

For information or help with any aspect of the route, or the Class 323 EMU used by the Cross-City, please read the Release Notes; there you will find sections explaining the detail levels used by the route, file naming conventions, advice on how best to drive the class 323, how to use different trains with the route, as well as a full feature list, version history and known issues list. You can also read the Driver's Guide for BVE, the Class 323 / Cross-City South Tutorials for either openBVE or BVE 4, or e-mail me using the Contact page.

If you need help downloading and installing openBVE, BVE Trainsim, or this add-on, then please read either the openBVE Help Guide or BVE 4 Help Guide.

Firstly, the downloads on this page are distributed in 7-Zip (.7z) compressed archives, so you'll need a program like the 7-Zip File Manager to extract the contents of the archives to your hard disk. See the help resources above if you need further assistance.

Of relevance to openBVE users Of relevance to BVE v4.2 users Installation Instructions (openBVE v1.2 and BVE Trainsim v4.2):

Simply download the archives marked [Essential], and if you've installed BVE Trainsim v4 in it's default location, extract the contents of each archive to your '<System Drive>:\Program Files\mackoy\BVE4\' folder, where <System Drive> is the drive or partition where Windows is installed. If you've installed BVE 4 elsewhere, or you don't use BVE Trainsim at all and only openBVE, you will need to extract to the alternative destination folder accordingly.

The routes intended for openBVE and BVE v4 are located in the following folders after installation (for details about the differences between the detail levels, read System Requirements, Detail Levels and Recommendations):

<Installation Path>\Railway\Route\Birmingham_X-City_South_BVE4\HighDetail\
<Installation Path>\Railway\Route\Birmingham_X-City_South_BVE4\MediumDetail\
<Installation Path>\Railway\Route\Birmingham_X-City_South_BVE4\LowDetail\

If you are using openBVE, then you probably won't need to use anything other than the High Detail routes, due to openBVE's superior 3D performance with a suitable graphics card and OpenGL driver support.

Of relevance to BVE v2.6 users Installation Instructions (BVE 2.6 only):

If you are still using BVE 2.6, installation proceeds as per the openBVE/BVE 4 installation, except you will need to change the Destination Folder to "<System Drive>:\Program Files\BVE\", where <System Drive> is the drive or partition where Windows is installed. If you've installed BVE 2.6 elsewhere, you will need to extract to the alternative destination folder accordingly.

The BVE v2.x compatible routes are located in the following folders after installation (for an explanation of the different versions, read System Requirements, Detail Levels and Recommendations):

<System Drive>:\Program Files\BVE\Railway\Route\Bham_X-City_South\HighDetail9x\
<System Drive>:\Program Files\BVE\Railway\Route\Bham_X-City_South\HighDetailXP\
<System Drive>:\Program Files\BVE\Railway\Route\Bham_X-City_South\StandardDetail\

** IMPORTANT REMINDER **

If you're using openBVE (or still use BVE 4), please DO NOT use the routes found within the Railway\Route\Bham_X-City_South\ folder! These older, legacy routes are designed for use with BVE 2.6 only.

openBVE and BVE 4 users should use routes within the Railway\Route\Birmingham_X-City_South_BVE4\ folder.

This route is produced in accordance with the BVE Developer Guidelines. Use of the banner indicates a BVE developer's support for the principles outlines by the guidelines, namely respecting other BVE developers and their wishes regarding how their work is re-used. Whether a developer retains rights over their work and wants you to ask permission before re-using any material, or gives it away as copyright free, supporters of the guidelines recognise that BVE add-ons released in either way are valuable contributions to the BVE community, believe that a developer's wishes should be respected, and request that you do the same.
